In the Fluke 8846A DMM, there is a lithium coin cell on the main circuit board. I have read this is for powering the unit's clock and calendar functions. However, does it also affect the calibration data retention as well? As we know, most closed-case calibrated equipment stores the cal data in NVRAM, so no battery power is needed. But, is it safe to change the cell if needed, or is this only a Fluke service center task? Any ideas on what to do when the battery needs replacing?
