I think that means Tracing paper. Immersing paper in sulfuric acid makes it semi transparent, that is how tracing paper is made.
I use tracing paper to print pcb patterns for photo transfer - toner sticks to it much better than the PET transparencies I was using before.
Good enough is the enemy of the best.

(and I thought it was due to Alkali processing, but that seems to be more of a true (skin-based) vellum thing.)
