Usb dongle casing
« on: March 05, 2016, 08:01:11 pm »
So im building something that needs a casing like the linkhttp://m.aliexpress.com/item/1831721560.html

Are there any sites/companies that offers these kind of casing in different sizes.

UsbA male/female holes need to be present.

Have searched alot but not been able to find anything. Cheap China stuff works.

This may work: http://www.pactecenclosures.com/product-models.php?classid=25&seriesid=82 It's a sort of build your own case with multiple end caps including male and female USB A connectors.

I'm still open for more suggestions!

You need many of them?  I guess that some guy at the DirtyPcb/DP company in Shenzhen could easily find something for you at a low cost down in Huaqiangbei.  Or Mitch at Hackvana...  They both does that kind of services in addition to their regular PCB services.

Well yes i will need at least 100 pcs.

But if you get these "custom made" casing then you need to send them some kind of Mech Cad files i guess??

When I visited Huaqiangbei it looked like anything was available there, and if not there the sellers and their runners could acquire basically anything else elsewhere. :-)  I'm sure the guys there can scrounge up a couple of hundreds of cases similar to the one in your first link. But if you need something custom special you're probably out of luck unless you want to spend $5-10K on having dies for injection molding EDIT: med made for you.

When I search for upansuliao I only get a "sorry, I did not find " upansuliao " related to baby" message,  But you can copy your search url into goo.gl to generate a short-link that can be pasted here.  goo.gl preserves the full utf-8 search string.

Now we are getting closer. I will contact seller and see if they have slightly bigger. Then it's perfect.

Is this for an open source hardware project? If so, I'll help. I'm in Shenzhen a few blocks from the electronics market. I'm also pretty handy with Taobao.

Hi at the moment ive decided to go with a differernt pcb solution, therefore i will use a casing such as in the link below
http://www.dx.com/p/usb-2-0-2-5-sata-hdd-enclosure-82759#.VxHxZx-5nMI

It has everything i need. Although buying a complete enclosure feels stupid because i need to remove the fitted electronics anf remove the printing on the aluminiu casing.

Can this casing be found without print/label and without electronics?

Do you need the plastic end caps also?

I searched on Taobao and found a bunch of sources for that same 2.5" hard drive enclosure. You could contact the sellers and see if they can give you just the enclosure without the printing, electronics, and other bits.

2.5" HDD enclosures that are the same as your link:

Another option is to enbed the pcb in a rubber case. These are made in low volume in the UK. The designer is on some of the entertainment technology forms.

While in HQB today I dropped in on one of the enclosure booths. They had the extrusion you're looking for. The guy wasn't there, so I couldn't ask about the end caps. It might not be the best for you since there are no PCB support slots. I'll follow up with photos and contact info when I get back to my computer. Photos attached.

Let me know if I understand your needs. You are looking for an off-the-shelf enclosure that can house a PCB. The enclosure must have openings for one USB-A male connector and one USB-A female connector. Is that right? If so, maybe a USB power bank enclosure would better suit you. Do you have more details?

Waaaa thats alot of enclosures.

Well you almost got it. One opening of usbA female and a hole for a Led on one end cap. The other end cap could be just a solid plastic piece without any holes or with small ventilation holes..

A pcb support would be preffered yes. The size of the whole enclosure should be like thos you found on picture and made of aluminium. They need to have good heat transfer.

I also want to thank you for your help!

I recommend finding an extrusion you like and getting custom end caps. You can get it cut to any length and have whatever cutouts and printing you like. They'll work with small quantities.
