cheap pick and place
« on: July 20, 2016, 02:45:46 pm »
I have to build some prototypes and the pick and place prices are just HUGE, I mean, for 5 PCB USD$8.000 (250 elements), so I was thinking to just solder some components (LGA Package) and that's it, the rest by hand  :'(.

So please, if anyone have some place were to request a quote without being plucked, please share the tip.

Btw, preference in USA given the deliver time.

Thanks in advance,

 JP

There's a price comparison calculator for PCB assembly at PCBShopper.com. You can enter info about the number of components on your board and it'll give you prices from six different assemblers.

Disclosure: I run the site.

USD$8 for PCB assembly by machine? That's impossible! I do PCB and PCBA for several years, it always have the minimum consumption for SMT by machine since the the booting fee is there. For your reference, zfpcba is 196usd, pcbcart is 203.2usd, 7pcb is 200.04usd. The quality of PCBA boards by machine is high and it's beautiful. If your project is just a simple prototype and not require high quality, I suggest you solder by hand.

For prototype you can consider, something like this

Dave had an interview with PCBng on The Amp Hour lately. They are located in New York and might suit your needs.

@Iron Downey

I think he meant 8000; not a decimal point, but a thousands separator.

Indeed, I should write USD$8000, latin key code use "." instead of "," for thousands separator in my country and sometimes I forgot that.
