IC re-taping machine or service

We have to take some SOIC-8 and 14 devices from its plastic tape carrier, test them and re-tape them again for the pick and place machine.

Required quantity is about 1000 or 2000 pcs a week, thus the machine needs not be high speed.

We can also consider an external, US-based contractor to do it for us.

The reason? An embarrassing error committed by someone else and which I have to correct.

Why not just transfer them into tubes and use a tube feeder?

Excellent idea, sometimes the best solution is the simplest.

I will check and see if our pick and place machines accept feeder tubes.

i wonder if you can share the error, or hint at it. it is hard for me to imagine an error where this is the solution. did the taped parts get sent through the washing machine or something?

Someone who did not read or understand the datasheet, and chose a plain vainilla opamp for use on a critical application. 
Because of various “pencils down” clauses with the customer, no changes are allowed at all, until the next product iteration.

I didn’t choose the opamp nor did I sign the contract. I only have to deal with the yield fallout.

I have checked our pick and place equipment, it can use tube feeders.

might be cheaper to apply a new laser mark to the correct parts 

kinda like how we would change our report cards in grade school!!
