looking for name/source of this type of pcb pins-rivets
« on: February 14, 2023, 02:14:04 pm »
These might be quite old, and perhaps not even produced any more, but maybe someone has seen them somewhere?
I have 2mm diameter ones, but need 1.4~1.5mm ones now, been searching for "pcb rivet pin header" words in all sorts of combinations, but nothing comes up, just regular rivets, but I need these "stand off" type since the pcb is quite thin, just 0.8mm, and I'd prefer a longer solder joint for the incoming wire.

Not quite the same,  but these might work for you.

Thanks for replies, quantity is very low, so bothering big manufacturers won't be worth it for neither me or them. I was simply thinking that these may have some special name I haven't heard of.

Anyway, figured out a solution with something that I have on hand and that won't break the bank also, 1.5mm ferrules, stripped off the plastic, slide in, tiny amount of solder to hold it, flatten the back side, reflow the solder, done.

The part I linked is available reasonably cheaply in small quantities from common distributors
e.g.

FYI, in the context of electronics, rather than calling it “riveting”, the term used is “swaging”. There are all sorts of swage-mount parts out there. I think you’ll have better luck finding them with that wording.

I have to ask - what is the PCB for? The traces were interesting.

that looks like a heater of some kind.

Just be aware the proper tools for seating those rivets are not cheap, if you want to meet the specification.

But I think that rivet hardware is damn good quality. I highly recommend keeping a few sizes around for PCB repairs, even without the proper tooling, and you can make quick wiring boards out of blank material for power resistors and such (good way to make a professional load out of resistors that are actually mounted to something). You can make a generic one by taking a marking punch and grinding a dome on the end by hand that kinda fits into the rivet with a grinding wheel

I was replacing old capacitors and I managed to tear out a via while removing the filter caps a few months ago, so I took a copper sheet and cut a shape of a pad out of it, and put a hole in the middle for a rivet (like a road sign), then riveted into place over the hole and then put the cap and it attached to the existing trace, then applied some epoxy with a needle applicator. (dp270 works well flow flowing under the copper and stuff)

It appears to be a PCB resistor as would be used in a heating application.

The swaged hollow pins are available from Mill-Max, for instance, 322x-y-00-21-00-00-08-0 where 'x' and 'y' are 1–3 for different lengths through, and above, the board respectively. The hand tools for swaging or crimping against the board are available from Circuit Medic (PACE also used to sell them and perhaps still does).

A related connector is called a "solder cup terminal", for instance, Harwin H9026-01.

My mind went to security / anti-tamper. :-[
