Loss of Detail in Thermal (FLIR ONE)
« on: February 06, 2017, 09:10:44 pm »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction on why I am seeing such a loss of detail in my thermal images...

I am running a version of the flir.php script found here:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/flir-e4-thermal-imaging-camera-teardown/msg342072/#msg342072

I've edited the script to be compatible with:
ImageMagick-7.0.4-Q16

I had to change instance of -mattecolor to -alpha-color

Using the following:
php _flir.php --pip --msx -i _IMG_1226.jpg -o out.jpg

I get output that lacks the details expected from an MSX, the thermal data has loss a lot of details, and things seem a little darker. I tested this in BFIC.exe and I am not seeing the MSX issue or the darkening, but I still see a big loss of detail in the thermal data. Do I need to issue a different set of commands? Or, do I need to downgrade ImageMagick?

You don't loss thermal information.
But without MSX you loss the extra information from the visual camera.

Additional if the thermal image is to bright/dark you have to adjust the Span/Level of the scale.
Freeware Thermal Analysis Software: ThermoVision_Joe-C
Some Thermal cameras: Kameras

Thanks for the reply, what software or script are you using? My understanding from the script that I am using is that it should be compositing the thermal imagery and the embedded RGB, but the output seems to ignore the "--msx" flag entirely.

Edit: I see your using your ThermoVision tool!
