This video shows a simple method to make a high performance (low inductance) socket to connect your oscilloscope probe to your circuit under test.  It is easily adaptable to different probe sizes/styles and circuit configurations.

A+ sure beats trying to hold the probe on a small via bending over the spring tip just right... while trying to finagle the scope controls with the other hand!

Thank you  w2aew as usual your clarity to show and teach subjects is incredible :)

For more information on the subject everybody should watch Bob Pease (RIP) shows.

Oh man, I did not realize Bob did videos...  I gotta catch up on that.

For some great discussion on low noise measuring, check out What's All This Ground Noise Stuff Anyhow, p. 88 in this pdf:

Edit: or go right to the original article with the same text but no picture of a probe in a coily socket: http://electronicdesign.com/boards/whats-all-ground-noise-stuff-anyhow

Thanks for the video! Inspired by this, I attempted to make some small loop tips for my probe such that the ground "socket" ended in a straight wire that would be a second probe tip, rather than soldering that ground socket to something. I had a lot of trouble with the plastic retaining ridge on my probe snagging the wire loops and deforming, causing the probe to have a loose fit.  So I went for something stiffer, and ended up with a finishing nail.  It was a lot more difficult to work to the correct shape, of course, but it holds that shape as I take it on and off.
I am but an egg

Nice ground spring adapter. I've also used a paper clip for the same thing, as it holds it's shape well after being formed.

Do a youtube search for Bob Peace, you'll be happy.  Gave me many hours of bathtime entertainment (yes, I have a TV at the end of my bath connected to an Apple TV, not bragging, recommending a similar setup, you can read and watch tech videos and take a soak all at the same time, my gf thinks I'm nuts but loves me anyway)
To be responsible, but never to let fear stop the imagination.
