Maybe not perfect but anytime you think your DMM has enough digits or your measurements ore 'ok' watch a Robrenz video or two  :-+ :-+

I suspect his next video the curvature of the Earth will be considered to make his parts 'flat'  >:D

The one after that is "Space time curvature and the effect of milling machines on workpieces", to be followed by "Feeds and speeds: Heisenberg uncertainty considerations".

Backstepping slightly, it used to be so that large lathes (bed length > 10m or so) had to be erected using gravity-indeptendent surveying equipment. Machine shop spirit levels conform themselves to earth curvature, and as a result, the bed, if righted to a level, will be bent.

Oh hell, you are too fast. Missed page 4020 during night, so this too late...

It's never too late, delete your self a place back to page 4020, if you're lucky you may even be able to get yourself to 0.1M post and 4020 photo on the right page....
Don't forget to screen capture though, before this fashion fucks the universe's time continuum backwards!
In fact I was attempted to post more shit to get to page 4020 that evening. But I was too tired to wait until the page was reached as the progress was nearly zero...

Btw the forum software sucks on a phone...

This is the reason I rotate my scopes to the test rack on a regular basis. I was going to put the Type 321A on test but when I powered it up I was greeted with this mess. No sweep. So today on the bench for troubleshooting.

I figured another one of the germanium 2N2207 transistors had gone tin whisker short so armed with nothing more than the 87 set to ohms went to work. And in 5 minutes found the problem. Q183 in the pix. That 2N2207 had a tin whisker short back when I first got the scope and was replaced by me. Well, I should have checked my solder work a little more closely. The top lead (emitter) cold solder joint and had pulled away from the terminal strip.  :palm: :palm: Do I kick myself in arse now or later?  :-DD Oh well.

Works great with good solder joints.  ::)

I try to minimize my time on these terminal strips because I'm using 60/40 and mixing it with the silver solder. So I ALWAYS give the joint a tug with needle nose to make sure it's secure. But as the law of Murphy states, the ONE time you don't it will come back and bite you in the arse.  :o

My arse hurts.  |O :P :-DD

Yeah, it's as if the directed acyclic graph is a data structure completely unknown to anyone who started writing software after about 1980.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

A few ebay picks, hopefully relevant:

These are not bad, if you like quirky old LED DMMs:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324778684908

Cheap for now:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324778699404

Donor for a card extender?:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393543461678

Somewhat salty price but at least open to offers:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114972553819

This better be full of unobtainium parts for this money:

Oh don’t get me started on algorithms and idiots. I found a DAG the other day which someone had created a cyclic dependency on in a rules engine and had the cheek to argue it with me. Feckin Russel Group comp sci grad should know better.

I'm mostly self-taught, so I most of the time don't know what name whoever put on whatever I'm doing, but have over the years amassed a pretty thorough habit of checking my work against at least some reasonable constraints.  My methods often are a tad crude, mostly in the interest of completeness, but they tend to work.  And I own my mistakes.

A local ham has a whole garage full of that sort of parts stash. All from a bygone era. If he knows I'm working on a radio for another ham he always tells me if I need any parts to just let him know. I of course thank him, but nothing whatsoever in that garage would help me out.

 :-\

But, if restoring an old vintage radio, sure there may be something I can use in there.

 :-\

But, if restoring an old vintage radio, sure there may be something I can use in there.

Yeah there’s one of them round here. His wife left so he put up thousands of little drawers up all down his hall. All full of damp carbon composition resistors and stuff like that  :-DD

I’m dreading a relative kicking the bucket soon as he’s another one. There are boxes and boxes of tubes. Literally thousands of the things. I’m going in with a hit list and the rest goes to clearance.

Guys, you're slacking

I was divided on whether I should post a 4018 or not.

McBryce.

Please don't double down on that joke!

Does no one actually have these parts? the last few all look snurched from other sites. I found a random PCB earlier and may/will post pictures on the appropriate page, or if I miss the page due to work, will post it anyway.  :horse:

As I do a lot of vintage computer repairs, yes, I have boxes of TTL and CMOS through-pin chips, I just couldn't be bothered looking for the correct part and photographing it when I can find a clear picture of one in seconds on the interwebs.

McBryce.

Here we are, one CD4023AE IC.

Edit: oops wrong picture, should have been this one.  :-DD

This better be full of unobtainium parts for this money:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265299452416

Fuckers want £500 to ship it to Sweden. Fantasy-land, all over.

The loonies want £60 to ship within the UK! On something that would cost £5, tops.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

A few ebay picks, hopefully relevant:

These are not bad, if you like quirky old LED DMMs:

Yup.   On my watch list.   Will bid if the price stays sane.
