@tggzzz found something for you https://www.ebay.com/itm/202991425679

Tempting, but I can't find any specification and I really don't want more boxes ATM.

Thanks :)

Ex-MOD, and looks like Vishay own the brand now, can't imagine the specs being anything other than quite good.

His pricing though... I think I will throw a very]lowball offer.

Vishay own just about all brands now :( Makes saying Vishay==good less valid than it used to be. It also makes for great confusion between similar components from competing divisions.

I agree about your offer, and I'll stay out of your way!

I offered him a pony including shipping, and was declined, so have at it!   :-DD

I've already got too many high value resistors, so I'll decline.

For those that are into buying stuff in bulk, Ramco has some up for auction. They don't allow pickup anymore, so I wonder how much shipping costs would be :)

Yes I think you are the second. I had an extended chat  a couple of weeks ago on Bang Good live chat service and they told me that the only place that them in stock was China so I said, OK, supply me from China and they said that they would and also that they get it sent out urgently. I have tried the live chat a couple of times since and it is not working, it takes a message and they send you a confirmation email of receipt of the message and that they will be in touch soon, so far I'm still waiting for the reply  :wtf:

I have only three scopes. But two of them are Tektronix.  ;D

- THS 720A which I'm using for my Reparier-Bar thing where I'm volunteering as a repair guy
- 2465B, because I wanted a real nice analog scope
- Rohde & Schwarz RTB2004 (100MHz)

Don't know, if I'd buy another one ....  ::)  :D
Maybe, if you can recommend one?   :-DD

How I use scopes:
- Tek MSO2000 and MSO4000 in the "hardware lab". 10 years old but OK, reliable.
- Rigols DS1000Z as "monitors" running permanently with long term experiments. Cheap as dirt, never failed, good enough if
you dont need superprecise stuff, but just a go/nogo. Good SCPI quality.
- Keysight S 6Ghz for tricky low noise and fast work. Best scope in (my) town. Not cheap.

Recommendation depends on the task. Whats the main project for your new scope ?

Actually, I don't have a demand for a new scope. The last scope I've bought was the R&S and I bought it for mainly two reasons:

- I wanted a decent digital scope for repairs and some developing in the lower frequency ranges¹
- it has a good low-noise floor so I will combine it with the low noise amplifier, which was introduced in the metrology section by zlymex.²

And I was able to afford the 4chan - 100MHz version with most of all options (no logic analyzer probes, not all decoding)

¹ one of the things that strikes me with the RTB2004 was the 10bit resolution in this price-class. And the huge display.  :-+

² https://www.eevblog.com/forum/metrology/diy-low-frenquency-noise-meter/ - I have here several LTFLU-1 which I want to test.

In the meantime, I have assembled mine and I think it works. Somehow. Haven't looked yet for a manual to find out, how to use it. The copy which comes with this kit is simply a bad joke, barely readable and no instructions about how to use it. And the chinglish is outstanding! Let's see if I could find some time today to play around with it.

OK, so the Cherry MX board 1.0 keyboard arrived from CPC. Now, how do I get repeat key presses under xubuntu? Basically I need to be able to hold backspace down, and to then watch what I mistyped disappearing.

Looking at the x events with xev, it appears that the source problem might be n-key rollover. If I press a key (other than the ctrl/alt/shift modifiers), then I see a single keypressed event immediately followed by a keyrelease event at the same time.

Is there a workaround, or does the keyboard have to be returned?

This is some xorg/xinput fuckery. Try issuing

$ xset r on

If that doesn't work try:

$ xkbset repeatkeys

May have to install xkbset.

There should be something in the keyboard settings which turns this on. The keyboard is 100% fine I'm sure.

Edit: Two important debug steps:

1. See if it works in the display manager or not. If it dies in the desktop session afterwards then it's related to that.
2. It's ALWAYS worth disabling the display manager, rebooting (systemd is shit) installing twm as a window manager and starting a session with startx with that as that doesn't have any gnome keyboard fuckery at start up in it.

Edit 2: actually doing some research this probably is gnome fuckery. Hit:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.keyboard repeat true

Please note this shit is why I still use windows on the desktop :)

Nah, they went well above what I would have bid several days ago.

That baby Thandar only just escaped me, went for £60, just a few more than my limit.

EDIT: The bid is currently at £140 for those, which may well be less than they're worth, but is well above jammie git territory, which is the only place I can afford to stand right now   :-DD

If by "in the display manager" you mean at the login screen, it fails in the password textbox too.

They all do zilch, the latter probably because I'm using xfce/xubuntu (and an old one at that; new version for the new computer awaiting CCLOnline to spring into activity).

I suppose the next step is to try a livedisc.

But I suspect the problem is in the keyboard's firmware. You can download new firmware that changes behaviour I suspect is implemented in the keyboard, viz LED brightness. Too damn "intelligent" by half, my foot. Soon you'll have to boot cars before you can use them.

X has been a clusterfuck for 30 years, with superficial problems like this obscuring more fundamental problems barely hidden underneath.
Windows was (is?) the reverse.

Ah ok. Yes X is indeed a nightmare from hell. Weyland exists now which fixes all that but creates a lot of new problems. However Weyland is still circa 2009 windows. The key issue with Linux is infighting between gnome/gtk, Xorg. Freedesktop etc. Eventually Redhat hired everyone involved so you’re got a nice monopoly there and some consistency. But it has not propagated to all distributions yet and of course it comes under the guise of systemd.

Worth trying Centos as well. That’s derived from RH and Fedora and supports xfce too and unlike Ubuntu derivatives seems to have had some testing done on it. Bar the core systemd integration it feels more bare bones surprisingly and is really well put together from the user’s shell perspective. Debian too although that’s getting more broken by the day now.

That's one sunrise I'm going to sleep through  :-DD

Edit: On Tek 24xx series. I have a 2445 I am trying to get rid of because it scares the shit out of me owning it. Yeah it's pretty damn excellent but at this point I am done with things that punch you in the dick right in the middle of something  :-DD

It won't let you down if you do 2 things: re-cap the PSU and service the fan.

If I can do it, you can do it.  ;D

Edit, besides....I have it all documented and idiot proof.  :-DD

Idiot RESISTANT.  There is no such thing as idiot proof - there is none so creative as a thwarted idiot.

There's 1d10ts... and then there's bd. ;) You NEVER know when    is gonna strike.  :-DD

This is some xorg/xinput fuckery. Try issuing

$ xset r on

If that doesn't work try:

$ xkbset repeatkeys

Yup. Leave it to *NIX to find a way to fuck up the keyboard.  :palm: They could fuck up a wet dream.  |O

Well, X came along a long time after UNIX!

At least X and UNIX had the grace to make new mistakes.

Microsoft didn't have that excuse since it created Xenix the most popular and successful Unix in the early 80s :)
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

Xenix was actually quite nice. It was slightly tragic when they gutted the GP surgeries here and got rid of all the Xenix stuff. It actually worked properly and didn't have any major security risks because no USB holes, no internet access. They were all Wyse terminals. I was responsible for moonlighting to install shockingly fast 10baseT in a lot of GP surgeries in North East London at the time. Fortunately we weren't around when Windows landed  :-DD

As for X, yes. It wasn't appreciated. The true Unix successor to X was actually "rio" which was part of Plan 9 and actually written by someone with a clue stick (Golang designer Rob Pike). Unfortunately Windows had taken over by then and rightfully so because of extreme UI consistency and cost. Shame the consistency bit didn't last.  There was actually a really sweet spot on windows when NT4 SP 6a dropped where everything was just right.
