Comedy gold. Chinese PLC came with a nice USB / serial adapter.  :palm: :palm: :palm:      Actually the casing overlaps the normal built in connector as well so even a less lumpy cable won't fit either.

Options:
1. make a new lid with a hole big enough and 3dp it.
2. dremel a slot out of it.
3. dremel the side off the USB adapter
 :palm: :palm: :palm:

Obviously the guy who designed the case was a Grad student with a MCSE.  :-DD  And/or the PLC was designed as a bare board to get as many iterations out of a sheet without consideration of spacing required to put a shell around it...  :o

Nah, the buttons are on the wrong side for it to be a Fluke and there were many copies of the Fluke button design anyway.

It's an OTC model 3450 made to order as a factory service tool for Datsun Dealerships. It could very well be a Fluke with the PCB & LCD display flipped around and some special doodad or serial connection that plugs into the earphone jack inside. Or equally possible it's a Sperry, Philips, etc model which design was "inspired" by the [FLUKE] meters of the era.

OTC made their name in the auto service industry by taking halfway-decent off-the-shelf tools like a DMM and modding them JUST enough to be proprietary for OEM, and then shoving that shit all in a ruggedized, unitized case so it could be inventoried, stored in the tool locker and used by the shaved simians in Dealership garages. You know the guys I'm talking about; the ones who could literally bust a anvil. :palm:

There are much more powerful solid-state laser LED arrays readily available; like this 456W nominal made from 12 38.5W NUBM08 arrays on a water jacket. These are each ~4-6W NUBM08 emitters with integral G-ball lens that has about a 50/50 chance of being properly collimated to infinity focus. It is doubtful the lens on the NUBM31T unitized module has any elements that collimate properly to infinity focus, as that is the polar opposite of the intended use case. This is all shit that has literally been developed from scratch in the last decade; how fast the tech has evolved is simply fucking amazing.  :o

styropyro has been around a while; every LASER fiend and wannabe knows who he is. But he really needs to work on his Colin Furze-style banter; he's still entirely too nerdiriffic. ;)

Rego Park is on Long Island. Same area as the 8505A came from. Took USPS 6 days to go approx 120 miles. Probably this time take them 3 weeks.  :--

My 4503 boots a little differently to yours Specmaster. It would be nice to know what all the messages mean...
I wonder if RS232 or GPIB would help resolve the issue.

https://youtu.be/p5JnEC6-qvM

Yes it does indeed, I'm pretty sure that it should display all 8's to test the segments. Totally agree, it would be nice to know what the messages mean but the manuals, operating and service do not explain that at all, in fact they make no mention of them and I find that rather odd, as already mentioned, the manuals often leave more questions than answers I'm afraid.

Here are some videos I took of mine, one of them shows how it behaves when in resistance mode which is giving me a headache at the moment trying to fathom it out.

Unlike the video I sent you last night, I no longer get the totalerr = 0, instead it boots to what I think is the software version code and then to the GPIB address?.

As to if the the GPIB or the RS232 would help in resolving the issues, I don't have a scooby doo, I don't have either of the leads or any idea on the coding required anyway  :-// :-DMM

grrr.

Just grrr. Came down early cuz I wanted to do some comparative noise level measurements on different fans for my 3DP while the house was still. Literally the minute I get a dB meter installed on my phone and my fans all laid out... WHILE I was taking ambient baseline... EVERYBODY wakes up at once and invades my space; raising the noise floor by 5-15 dB variable.  :palm: My anticipated variation between various fan arrangements is 10dB or less. |O

@med6753: With the first version of that bloody manual out for review, I did return to that matter.
Here is what I found so far:
My last post was insofar not precise as the mention of 'single shot' was instead meant to refer to single aquisition, that is all modes which do not use the 'repetitive' function.

I'm sorry that I can not include the missing parts, that is the table from page 3 of the catalogue excerpt and the block diagram from the maintenance manual, but those are PDFs which I obtained either from K07BB or from the TekWiki and they are protected, so that I can't print or snapshot from them. One day hopefully someone will explain to me how this can be resolved.

.......snip......

Thanks for taking the time to examine this and trying to figure out exactly what the manual says and how this 2430 is supposed to work. I have also read the same sections of the manual so I'm glad that I'm not the only one who is somewhat confused as to what exactly Tek's intention was in the design of this scope.

I think it's important to remember that we are dealing with a 1980's technology first generation DSO. The 1980's tech slaps you in the face as soon as you open the case. 2 logic boards completely stuffed full of pin-thru-hole IC's. Reminds me of the first time you open a 1980's PC/AT and stare at the enormous motherboard. And all those IC's today probably condensed into 2 or 3 chips with 100X the function. We have indeed been spoiled. And remember how the typical PC/AT would take upwards of 15 or more seconds to render a high resolution JPEG on the CRT a few lines at a time? Well that same lack of horsepower occurs on the 2430 too. When in REPETITION mode you have the option of selecting 2 samples/sec up to 256 samples/sec. With a high frequency waveform and selecting 256 samples/sec you can watch the scope slowly render just like the PC/AT does with the JPEG. My entry level Siglent SDS 1052DL renders instantly with absolutely no lag.

I wonder if the true analog B/W of the 2430 is indeed just 40MHz and with the digital sampling trickery it achieves it's intended 150MHz B/W. This is nothing new in the analog world. Tek for many years has offered analog sampling units which gave a good rendering of waveforms up into the GHz region.

So in real world test. 10 MHz square wave. How does a 150MHz 2430 stack up against a 300MHz 2465? Damn good I'd say even with it's digital wizardry. Slight increase in rise time (expected) and it attenuates the very high frequency ringing on the trailing edge. Also expected.     :-+
