OK, new toy time, one that I've been waiting to find...

...

So, when I noticed an Agilent 53310A where the owner showed it measuring things and also a clean self-test screen, I looked more closely. Since it had the high stability oscillator and third RF channel and was only £250+P&P, I jumped at the chance, even though that mutated into £350 and would take 4 weeks to get here. In the event, it arrived in 2 weeks :)

Ah, so you got that one. Nice catch — fully loaded. Mine has 001 and 030, but no 010. At some point, I'll get around to building a GPSDO for my bench.

It's funny the case has the Agilent logo, but the firmware still displays the HP logo on the screen.

And I'm sure it can do more strange and wonderful things :)

Thanks for the little show-n-tell. Neat idea that rise-time computation. Looking forward to hearing about more strange and wonderful things you discover with it.

How are you doing now?

I'm a lot better. Fever is mostly gone (some time it's coming back at the end of the day for some reasons) and I'm coughing a little bit.

I'm still not sure if I got it or not since they don't care to test people like me over here ^-^ They are keeping their tests for health workers and such.

If it's light, hopefully it's the one. Then you may be safe for the season (however, long that is).

Well, I sure hope it's not coming back next year. Having to hide like that every spring would be disconcerting  :o

Btw, Covid-19:

Absorbing news related to Covid-19 makes me sick of it alone -so I mostly ignore it and just try to stay safe and healthy.

A kind of 'keep calm and carry on'.

Having TEA every now and then helps me a lot.   :)

I concur. And TEA helps in many ways (except the wallet, of course, and making space available, and...). ;D

Diversionary Tactics... Time to Make The Roast!

Browning the Onions                                Seared & Dressed in its Sunday Best       2 Hours on High

This is my tactic for making a decent roast indoors without a firepit.

First, I start the crockpot heating on hi while sear the roast (I found a nice top sirloin roast with decent marbling last time I braved the wilds of Sobey's Grocery) on all sides under the broiler; then while it's in the broiler pan, coat it in my favorite rub so the drippings from the searing hold the rub in place.

Then I slice a whole large white or sweet vidalia onion and brown it under the broiler in the same drippings. These I use to dress the top of the roast and cut the rest in with my carrots, taters & celery (and sometimes a little bell pepper). (I put most of the carrots in a layer on the bottom of the roaster so they cook thoroughly before the rest of the veggies turn to mush).

Put a handful of the mixed veggies down, then the roast. Surround with chopped veggies, then a layer of broccoli florets on top. Reset the timer for 2 hours to first temp check; when it hits 150-160°F, turn to LOW and cook til it reaches 180-190°F (set alert on leave-in thermometer) and desired tenderness.  :-+

Hmmm...

I started feeling a bit 'off' last night. All of a sudden, I felt cold and had an ache in my joints, so I took a painkiller and went to bed. I had a reasonable night's sleep.

This morning, every joint in my body is painful - even in my fingers, although I'm not feeling cold any more. One more pain killer and I'll see if that makes me break out in a sweat. If it does, then I have a fever.

Not promising at all and I have to finish writing and testing code for a new back end subsystem by Thursday.

And I'm sure [Agilent 53301A MDA] can do more strange and wonderful things :)

I simply nicked that risetime measurement from someone else, so I can't claim any credit.

Mental maps... Now while a scope is "input voltage to Y-plates, trigger is a comparator with sweep voltage going to X-plates" and a spectrum analyser is a "superhet radio on steroids", I don't yet have a mental map of how an MDA performs its magic.

That's going to limit my imagination, and that irritates me :)

Just read people are burning 5G antennas poles so human immune system without that radiation can fight better against COVID19.

Rightly or Wrongly the local Gestapo yesterday gave a 17 year old learner driver in a Car with her Mother a $1600+ fine for 'non essential travel'. The Crime was caused by trying to keep a bit of normality and doing some Driver Training while isolated from others  :palm:
