a question for k7je.

is the hp 6227b hard wired or does it have a jack for an iec plug?

am asking because this listing confuses me.  it says the meters work and it responds to the controls.

it also says no power cord is provided, although the pictures appear to show one.

am thinking in an attempt to demil it someone did a bobbit on the cord (and the pics are stock....as well as the comments about it working).

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Agilent-Keysight-6227B-Dual-DC-Power-Supply-0-25V-0-2A/333413848036?epid=1500254330&hash=item4da10393e4:g:KQwAAOSwglld3b5G

a message to the vendor has not gotten me any response.

edit -  to see the listing click on the pic with the "sold" banner across it.

This image from another listing shows that these have an integral cord; if someone hacked it off you'd have a legit claim to "Not as advertised" as it was sold as "Working tested" with "30-day NO DOA Warranty".

These guys are obviously in the used TE business, and have over 20K sales with good feedback. I'd say that cord thing was just some unedited cut/paste dumbassery specifically referring to gear that used an IEC or other modular cable.

Already answered by mnem, I strongly suspect they say no power cord included to indicate no IEC power cord will be included, they are not counting the integrated cord.

CL finally comes through... the yo-901 has found its new forever home.

and i sold it for enough to cover my last TE purchase. in my world, breaking even TE budget-wise is the best i can hope for.  ;D

i've been away from the bench dealing with the three crates of unsorted stuff from the now months-ago dumpster rescue mission. the dross has been separated out and the good bits sorted and bagged. Now I have three crates of parts ready to be inventoried and properly put away.

and so i can return to my real current obsession: fixing the 184 that i, apparently, partially destroyed last week.

I have a 6228B and it has a fixed power cord.  FWIW I've been happy with things I've gotten from esssurplus; they seem to be a good vendor.  The unit will likely have the cord; i think what you read is boilerplate to cover them for things with detachable power cords.

All this talk of fire stick soldering irons makes me wonder:

How many of us learned to not catch a falling soldering iron by catching a falling soldering iron.  Once...

(Raises Hand)

(ducks behind Carl and sticks my hand out sideways)  (busy looking for a sheepish emoji).

I learnt not to solder in shorts! Ooooooooooo - it still hurts!

Still do and it only hurts for a moment.  It has been a while since I have done that.  Too hot in Flori-DUH to wear long pants unless I have to actually leave the house to run a service call.

Not THAT desperate. YET. |O

Dude... go for it. Its Wideband   >:D

5MHz and it's out of breath. It does have the advantage over similar Heath scopes of that era in that it's DC coupled.

The horizontal input jacks are broken off. And as stated in the listing the handle is missing. The trace is tilted and there is no trace rotation. You'll have to loosen the CRT and rotate it. Guaranteed it will need a re-cap.

Other than that...go for it!  :-+ :-DD

I took the easy route, knowing there was a low probability of success.  I ordered a T9 LED light what would be an almost drop in replacement for the tube and "electronic ballast"  (aka switch mode power supply) in my now-disassembled bench lamp.  It arrived tonight and, indeed, it would be an easy replacement. It even came with clips to hold the light in the fixture.

Alas, here's what I saw when I hooked power up to it (before putting it in the fixture):

884580-0

That's a 0.5V pp signal. Yes, that's not a typo.  0.5V pp. My scope probe is picking that much signal up when it is six inches away from the light.   :scared:

I can hear it on radios a hundred feet away. I am sure, if I cared to run the experiment, I could hear it on radios a thousand feet away.  I promptly boxed it up and returned it for a refund, after leaving a review on amazon (complete with photos).   I didn't open it up but it is a safe bet that if provisions were made for filters - they probably were because that's how the game is played - any components actually required for that function were left off the board to save money.

Back to the drawing board. Its too bad, too, because that bugger was bright!

No worries on that.  I wear 'gym' shorts so no zip to worry about.  I have a very high pain tolerance but that would exceed it by an order of magnitude.

Took a break from sorting parts to put the new 500MHz 5328A up on the bench and test it. I already had one, the 100MHz version. Here are the two of them side-by-side, with the covers off.

As you can see the 500MHz version, which has the high stability oscillator, GPIB, and DVM is quite a bit more packed.  And I am happy to report that it all works out of the box. Measuring 600ish MHz on Channel C:

At some point, I will pull out the manual and run through the setup checks. I imagine I will look at the calibration procedure, too, though I don't think I have the gear to take it on.

But, overall, not bad for eighty-three bucks.

Its not climate catastrophe (or whatever they call it now) but that a dragon has moved closer to the north pole so is melting the ice caps. Not so much heat transfer in Texas!

The aluminium extruder upgrade is the only other upgrade I would consider manditory. The original extruder is made of something softer than PLA and will wear away pretty quickly. All the other filament guides etc seem to be useless and make changing the filament much more difficult. Tried them all, binned them all. I have the Pro version that has the fan on the bottom. If you have ordered the standard version (with fan on top) the fan shroud might be useful to stop bits of plastic falling in.
