Though it should be noted that image links breaking in older threads is an issue. Embedding images mostly prevents that.

Imgur has better availability and retention than eevblog forums. Images get linked elsewhere too. Also doesn’t cost Dave extortionate amounts of bandwidth fees.

Recent events have shown that externally hosted images can cause mayhem, but YMMV. It's just a sidenote for those who haven't considered it.

Nope, but it does save good old Dave fees.

If you use the [img] codes (as I did above) they even appear inline. Imgur will even let you pick the image size to link.

Your AD584KH looks way newer than the one in my example, mine is obviously a salvaged part. I just used it to check some of my DMMs - never tried it with the most recent aquisitions (TTi 1604 and Rigol DM3058). The calibration info on the back of the reference source says 2.49832v, the readings on the TTi was 2.4963v (when I remembered to put it in hi-res mode afterwards!), the Fluke 97V was 2.497v, The Rigol DM3058 was 2.4981v, and the Uni-T 70D 2.497v. So not bad, and I suspect the TTi 1604 is reading a little low anyway. Probably some losses in the leads too.

Salvaged is not necessarily bad. I'm hoping for an LH model on my reference; this will only come as salvaged or NOS parts. Plus pre-aged, etc...

Yes, but can't use vodka to clean circuit boards  :'(
Sure you can. Will it work well and get the board clean? Eh. Details.

Does a fabulous job; I can say this with Absolut certainty.  :-DD

Does any of you guys know whether the HP/Agilent/Keysight 34401A or Keithley 2000 do dual measurements, so for instance current and voltage? Somehow it's rather hard to find out which meters do, even though it means not having to buy a second meter in some cases. Of course companies aren't going to list what their meters don't do, but still.

With voltage references, salvaged could actually be an advantage.

Just a heads up for anyone doing this, TME sell exactly the same binding posts that HP/Agilent/Keysight use for 1/8th of the cost!:

https://www.tme.eu/en/details/bs-244mn-g/4mm-banana-sockets/

BS-244 series.

These are exactly the ones I mentioned as HP/Agilent look-alikes. I checked them against the original ones; they are a tiny little bit different but not much. At least they are suitable for drop-in-replacement.
Same source on my side.  :)

Ooh, those look quite good, indeed! I've seen the DSM series before, but these MN ones have the flared base like the HP and the hole for bare wire that the Chinese look-alike ones don't. The ribbing and colored ring are a bit rounded as compared to the HP ones, but probably close enough if all posts are changed together.

Do either of you have side-by-side comparison photos with the HP ones? I'm particularly interested in how the colors match to the real thing. Although HP has had them in different colors, I'm primarily interested in the light gray as used on the E361xA and E363xA power supplies.

The only problem is that TME doesn't have the black ones. The page says, "Product withdrawn from sale." Hopefully, that just means they're out of stock.

I've also been looking for a source of the original binding posts that GW Instek uses in their older power supplies and electronic loads. I have a PEL-300 electronic load with a slightly melted black binding post. It still works, but looks a bit droopy, and I haven't found a match yet.

The 34401A does not do dual measurements. The 34410A and 34411A have dual display to show two values simultaneously, but not for voltage and current.

GW Instek has some bench meters that do both voltage and current, however it alternates between them via relay. The Fluke 45 can do voltage and current, but I think it also toggles between them via relay.

I don't think the Keithley 2000 can do both. My Keithley 2700 could, if I had a scanner module with current support, but I don't (and that would still have to switch between the measurements).

Fellow TEA-sufferers!

xrunner has brought to my attention a couple of noteworthy things about the TEA house:

1. This thread is in the Top 10 Topics (by Replies) list for the EEVblog forum. In fact, it's currently #7 with 3745 replies. :o

I guess this means we now have TEA2: TEA Thread Engagement Addiction :-DD

2. We will be celebrating a year of TEA come January 15. What shall we do to celebrate (aside from buying more gear, which is a given)?

That's all for now. I return you to your watch lists.

The shipping companies should offer us something on that day.

Trough the huge shipping fees we probably payed for a few of there interns trough collage and probably for the medial bills (for the back problems from lugging our boatanchors around the world) ;D

My latest 'fix' arrived today.  I plugged it in and fired it up early this afternoon and just let it sit and cook.  As it's a hi-z input meter, the unterminated inputs let the reading climb to about -300mV or so, but upon shorting the input terminals it immediately goes to zero.  Here are a few (very) quick-and-dirty photos - it's in parallel with a Data Precision 3500, and being powered by an HP 6218A power supply.

Considering I've no idea what its history is, it seems to be pretty accurate on the lower DC ranges based on this extremely cursory check.  A 2.2k 5% carbon film resistor reads 2.189k which also seems acceptable.  I'll wring it out and get some pictures of the insides at some point in the hopefully not terribly distant future...

8.3-some-odd volts in:

Not quite 55V in:

Closer view of the meter face:

It needs some cleaning and TLC, but is in pretty decent condition for its (currently unknown, but I'm gonna guess 40+ years at least, since it's a 7000 and not a 7000A) age.  Ahh, the lovely warm glow of nixies!   ;D

Very nice, indeed — though I do like that DP3500. ^-^

It too is quite nice.   ;D  Panaplex displays run a very close second to nixies to me.  (I think I just like glass things with electrons in them...)  I need to run the DP 3.5k up on the calibrator at some point too, though I think it's pretty much dead nuts on.

Bit of a heatsink:
