Aim-TTi TF930 owners: can you post an inside pic?
« on: April 18, 2016, 11:30:24 am »
Hello,

I'm about to purchase a decent frequency counter and the best option for the price (for me) is the Aim-TTi TF930.

I've a couple of doubts:

1. Internal rechargeable batteries: how easy is to replace that batteries once their life comes to the end?

2. The unit comes with schematics and service manual? Or I can just download them?

3. Is the unit well engineered inside? There are any bodges inside? I can't find schematics/teardown pics on the web or in the forum.

Anyone of you can share his experience about this doubts and share any inside pictures?

I don't have one, but I have used one as I have ordered one for another department. The unit is quite small, and incredibly light. It works quite nice, it is verry is sensitive. It measures mains frequency when nothing is connected.

I did miss the option for external in/outputs like a trigger out and 10MHz in and out (except for the 10MHz input on the front. I don't like the 2 inputs with different ranges too. You can measure quite some different settings, but it cannot measure between or compare the two channels.

I havent opened it up, so I cannot say anything about the inside.

All in all its quite nice for the price.
Trying is the first step towards failure

Thank you for sharing this!

Maybe some other user knows something also about the inside.

As requested I've (somewhat gingerly) opened up my TF930 and taken some photos.

There isn't much to look at, just two boards and mainly empty space. This doesn't stop it being a good counter - I'm generally pleased with it:

Plusses : does continuous counting, computer controlled, a reciprocal counter and up to 10 digits.
Minusses : display not backlit, can be slow (doesn't bother me but if you want 10 digits you have to wait 100 secs.

more pics:

For those interested in getting into a TF930 you need to use your fingers (slightly painful on the finger nails!) no tools.

Gently lever the front rim off top and bottom and then pull out the four plastic rivets.

Hi Steve,

I follow you videos on YT (and I spot that counter behind you!).
We can discuss the price in PM, since I guess this forum area is not for this kind of things  :-+
