MSO5074 Case???
« on: May 12, 2020, 12:25:04 am »
I am in need of a case for my 5074.   TEequipment did not specifically show one.  It needs to be reasonably priced as well (ha ha)...

Thanks,
-Stan

A soft case, or a rigid case you could check in on an airliner (remember those?)?

Rigol makes bags for their 'scopes. I don't know how specific they are to individual models.

I bought my scope from TEequipment and their web site said one of there bags fit the MSO5074 so I bought it with the scope. It fits the depth but it's way too wide making it oversized for the scope. I bought this Rigol one which fits perfectly. It isn't cheap though.  :o

Ouch!

The one I posted the picture of is "for the DS1000Z" and costs half that. You can see it here under "accessories":

It looks identical to me (same photo) but, caveat emptor.

Maybe the price of the bag scales with the price of the 'scope.  :-//

What about to use a simple sport bag ?

Example

Perhaps a little bit foam additional...

I bought the BAG-G1 with the MSO5000 when I bought it recently.  It is a little pricey, and weighs almost as much as the scope.  On the plus side the body is stiff, and it has enough foam and velcro to make the insides cushiony with no slopping around of the instrument.  It doesn't feel cheap. There are pockets for the probes, terminators etc.  I'm happy with it overall, it will handle banging around and the journey to remote sites.   Slipping the scope in this case into a box and shipping it... no worries at all.

Not the same bag. Different Rigol part number. But I think Rigol assumes if you can afford the MSO5074 you can afford to lay out more cash for a bag.  :-//

The G1 bag is slightly more, but it sure is a lot more reasonable than the $79 plastic cover Rigol sells.  That cover should have Keysight molded on it instead of Rigol at that price.

Looks like ether the G1 bag for $150 or a cheap sport bag is the answer.  Thanks for the input guys...

As @moore said, the Rigol bag is well built and fit for purpose.

As for the price, in Retail it is assumed the Cx will pay 25% of the price of the product in (high-profit) accessories. Audiophool O2-free platinum-coated HDMI cables anyone?  :-DD

There are alternatives to the Rigol bag, like a Pelican case and similar, but they need come "work". BTW, Siglent sells such a customisable case for the SDS1000X series... You have to do your own cutout!   :wtf:

Gator Cases are built well and useful for equipment. I use one like this, room for the scope and another container with cables and connectors.
