LeCroy WaveJet 324A failure
« on: December 14, 2017, 12:22:16 pm »
Hi,
I turned on my LeCroy WaveJet 324A after approx. 3 years. However, it won't boot - please see video https://youtu.be/ijJ6xrUnGNk.

I checked internal backup battery and it has 3.2 V. Capacitors inside the scope looks OK.

Do you have any idea how to fix that?

Does the manual list any error codes. The beeps and lights seem to amount to one.

After 5 years I switched on my old broken 324A and surprisingly, it still doesn't boot :)

Meanwhile a service manual for LeCroy WaveJet appeared on the web - https://www.download-service-manuals.com/en/manual.php?file=LeCroy-13624.pdf . Unfortunately I'm afraid that it is for older WaveJets. At least it mentions that main CPU of the scope is Renesas 32-Bit RISC Microcomputer SH7727, which I believe is not true, because in my 324A, on CPU board, I found a big chip with SH3 laser marking - I assume it is Renesas SH3.

Otherwise, the service manual seems to be somehow up to date, at least all boards and interconnections it describes are actually present in my 324A.

In section 6.4 in describes some kinds of errors based on LEDs lit at startup. Unfortunatelly, my combination (blinking channel 2, REF, AUTO, STOP single) is not mentioned there. There are also some diagnostics flow charts starting from chapter 6.6.3, unfortunatelly I can't find any of it helpful.

I measured voltages going from power board to ADC board (it is the only exposed power supply connector I'm able to measure) and the voltages corresponds to what is written in the manual (connector 29J4).

Any help welcome. Thanks
