UT61E backlight mod question
« on: January 09, 2019, 08:56:40 pm »
I'm thinking about grabbing a UT61E and I've googled around to look at the various methods of backlight mods.  I'm not thinking I'll go with the capacitive mod or the light sensor.  Is there a way to modify the eeprom to have the hold light do it when held in for a few seconds?  I'm all about modding but I'm a stickler for keeping things looking nice and original.  I don't want a dumb toggle switch hanging off the back or anything like that.

One possible solution to turn the backlight back into an on/off switch is use an analog or digital latching circuit.  Something that triggers on voltage to the backlight (or a signal if present) keeping the backlight on and after xx seconds have elapsed and if it triggers again it unlatches. Either that or powering off the meter releases the latch. This would mean no physical switch or enclosure mods are required and more likely to maintain the meters integrity.

I returned mine and got a 139C , but the Mods for it and the 210E are the same as they used the same Chipset.....that is over a year agonow and they may not be using the same Chipset any longer so do your research 1st.

I was really torn over the 139C and 61E but I wanted the higher counts, fast autoranging, and data logging.  Plus the 139C is $10-15 more than what it was a year ago.  Prices are inflated for some reason.
