Unusual LCD failure TDS3054
« on: February 11, 2018, 03:27:34 pm »
I don't think I've ever seen an LCD that fails with a vertical or horizontal line that didn't extend completely from side to side (or top to bottom)

Something new everyday...

This could be a problem in the internal circuitry of the oscilloscope and not the display because it seems to occur in the signal trace overlay area. I'd try a different LCD first!
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Oh, I did! The replacement is fine.

Well then it certainly is an odd failure! Perhaps one of the traces on the glass itself got interrupted. I have seen localised defects in LCD screen though.

That would make perfect sense if the driver chip was on the bottom! Good call. I'd dissect it if I weren't going to use it as a test display...
I wonder how it could happen though; there's a protective anti-glare glass that covers the LCD.  :-//

Where did you get the replacement LCD, from Tek?

If I had, my wallet would probably be $500 lighter, assuming that they're not obsolete. ;)
I bought a couple of spares off eBay a year or two ago.
