I reckon it pays to do the test anyway, you never know if you got a meter that was made on Monday morning or Friday afternoon
or some peaved employee on the assembly lined walked, or soldering skills questionable,
or maybe the nice 'always worked' leads you have faith in are knackered with breaks, broken strands, cold solder or suss spot welds etc
i.e. test gear needs to be tested, especially if dangerous or hidden voltages are present and you are working alone.
Pet cats, dogs and birds may see you keel over and sympathise,
but can't bail you out or phone paramedics if you get uber zapped into tech/DIY oblivion!
Just sayin..
