Draper Multimeter
« on: February 13, 2014, 11:27:38 am »
Do Draper re-brand their multimeter's  or do they make them like Fluke and are they any good?
The funniest thing about this signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything its too late to stop reading it.

Based on what I have just been able to casually research online, they are all most likely rebranded junk. It appears that Draper is a general tool reseller and the multimeters are just another part of the much bigger business. In my experience, most multimeters sold from companies like this tend to be rather poor value and/or possibly dangerous for their stated use and safety rating.

Many tool makers like Klein, Greenlee, UEI, MasterCraft (Canadian Tire), Craftsman (Sears), Southwire, Snap-on etc don't make their multimeters.

Draper gets theirs made from CEM Instruments. Proof.  (Tip: The exaggerated height of the lcd digits is sure sign of a CEM meter).

Draper = CEM DT 101

Are CEM multimeters any good?  The evidence shown here in teardowns and Dave's $100 shootout reveal shockingly horrible internal build and soldering.  And yes, I have a CEM multimeter and I wouldn't buy another again unless I could get it under $5.

I definitely agree they are re-branded.
