Rigol DHO4000 in standby until new firmware is released
« on: May 16, 2023, 10:20:59 pm »
Hi, i got a Rigol DHO4204 and after several weeks "trying" to work with it, with many crashes in between i have decided to wait for a firmware update. I was thinking it was deffective until i told to other owners, having similar problems. Is any firmware upgrade expected? Bartronix, the seller, is ready for a refund. I dont know what to do.

I had the scope in February for two weeks to test.
In that short time, it crashed three or four times.
In addition, many bugs in the software of a general nature.
My verdict at the time was that it is not recommended in the condition.
Now 3 months have passed, the bugs that I identified then and the crashes in the time suggest that rigol would have to take care of it quickly.
But the last firmware update is from january...
I actually like the scope and the ideas behind it are new and good, the hardware is fast.
But what good is it if the software does not play along...
My tip:
If you don't want to play poker, hope it will get better soon, return it and get a SDS2104X HD.
This is much more mature, if not quite perfect yet.
Siglent is more conservative in this direction, more "serious".

You are a patient man, if it does not work reliably out of the box, I would definitely be returning it. Crashing during daily use is a firm trigger to return, it is such a hit on productivity.  You have no idea how long it will take for them to fix it.

In my experience, Rigol’s maturity when it comes to managing firmware is juvenile.  I hope they will release update to address the bugs, but why torture yourself in the time being. As Martin72 has stated, there are options.

I have a Rigol scope, it was my first, and also my last Rigol purchase. Siglent I may buy again, I have nothing against them, they are much more mature when it comes to firmware.

Take the refund and change brands ............  hoping for a FW  as its limit

The unit doesn't work "normally"   it is not good,   while you can  do it
