Best bang for the buck Flir camera?
« on: November 17, 2015, 01:11:48 pm »
Hi, I am looking to buy a Flir camera or module that works in an Android phone and was wondering if I could get the low down on the differences between the Seek Thermal and Flir One modules. (other then just price and specs). Also, does anyone know why the iPhone modules are SOOO much cheaper then the Android versions?

I am thinking that I will be able to get a new Flir One module for Android for about 200.00 when Amazon does their yearly cyber Monday/Black Friday thing but am wondering if I should get a Seek thermal instead. Some of the existing threads posted in these forums are so incredibly long and convoluted, that I gave up trying to figure out if one is better or worse then the other in any particular way.

I would like to get the Flir camera so I can see where the biggest problems are on my house as far as leaks and insulation goes.  The house is about 80 years old and could probably do with new Windows and more insulation in the Attic, but I wonder if some windows are way worse then others or if I should do the attic first, or what.

Thanks for any buying advice you guys can offer me.

Hi,
I bought a 1st gen Flir one (for iPhone 5) on summer and I'm pretty happy with it. It has the MSX technology which is nice, sensitive enough to show very little temperature difference and suprisingly accurate. I think it has a good value at this price (I paid 217USD after tax).

For the FLIR One they're the same price. For the Seek... the iOS version is cheaper, however it didn't use to be. I expect the Android version to come down in price soon.

Either way, for home inspection, get the FLIR One. It has better sensitivity and you'll need that more than the higher temp range of the Seek.

Thank you, that is exactly the type of answer I was looking for.  I was learning toward the Seek camera because of price, but I didn't realize the Flir camera has better sensitivity.
