Agilent 33511B vs 33220A function generators
« on: September 10, 2013, 09:02:41 am »
I only looked at this because Agilent are currently selling the 33220A on their e-bay store but it is also a current model.

The 33220A with option 001 (to allow an external reference) is listed at US$2,700 in round numbers.

The 33511B is much cheaper at US$1,954

Comparing specs the 33511B wins on everything from rise time and jitter to memory size and by a long way. Is this just a case of Agilent squeezing money out of big companies that buy what they already have (as it has already been tried and tested and there is legacy software and so on) or am I missing some advantage that the 33220A has over the 33511B which is totally hidden in the data sheets?

Since big companies probably don't bother with e-bay stores I can't see Agilent selling the e-bay 33220A at the price they are asking as it is still cheaper to buy a new 33511B complete with proper warranty.

But if you think about it, you can get a better Rigol 4000 series for around $800, then hack it up to 200MHz. It also has more waveforms. Choices, choices, choices.
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.
