PCB Soldering kits?
« on: October 05, 2017, 01:44:15 pm »
Hello. I recently started to get back messing with soldering. Iv just bought some new gear so I eager to start tinkering. I know the Bread board kits are easily available and pretty cheap. But Im looking to do some PCB component soldering.

Iv seen a few Digital clock kits and they look good but is there any other kits you can recommend? Thanks

Here is a nice cheap ESR/LCR tester kit and afterwards you will have a handy testing tool that you can update the firmware on later etc. You can take your pick as there is many different designs to choose from, I liked this one as it has a simple layout and all components are easy to replace.

Solder Practice Boards available on eBay. They're mostly SMD projects (LED), but they're inexpensive and quite useful for practicing on.

Another would be Electronic Kit. There's a lot more to sort through, but it also contains much more thru-hole projects. There's even a miniature Tesla coil plasma speaker kit for ~6.50 GBP shipped (here).

Nixie clock kits might be a neat project too.

If you don't care to use eBay, check other sources such as aliexpress, banggood, dx,...

I assume you've seen the giant 555 or op-amp kits.  There's not all that much soldering to be done, but at least when you're done you have something to play around with, or hang on the wall as 3D art.

If you mean the 555 timer, here are a few circuits:

Most of those should work, but I'm not sure if the kit is meant to be actively used, or more as decoration.

P.S. does anyone know the owner of this site? The forum seems down and I can't find any way to get in touch, I assume it's no longer maintained.
