How should I connect ESD mat for PC
« on: August 10, 2024, 04:53:40 pm »
Hi! I have an ESD mat and I want to take apart my PC that has rubber feet. My ESD mat has 2 connection studs: I connect my wrist strap to one, and a grounding wire to an earth gnd outlet of my soldering station (checked continuity to waterpipe with station off) to the other.

How should I get the same potential on the PC now? Can I just use a crocodile-crocodile cable and clamp it to somewhere on the mat and a screw on my PC?

You could do that, but it’s not really necessary. The wrist strap will dissipate any residual static charge through your hands once you touch the computer.

Okay, and as long as it just sits on the ESD mat, even with insulated feet, it should not build up a charge relative to earth (me and mat)? Thanks
