How do you call this cable
« on: March 23, 2015, 05:01:03 pm »
Hi!
I'm kind of despairing. I want to connect the LCD panel of my old notebook to my computer.
I bought a LCD controller from China and until now everything works like a charm ;)

But to mount the construction properly I need to extend the cable between the LCD:

and the controller:

Do I have to solder it?
I didn't find anything on the internet. I don't even know how you call the connectors...
Can you help me?

It would be helpful to have some dimensions, or at least the pitch.  The black one looks like a standard unkeyed rectangular housing, but it could be 2.54mm, 2mm, or 1.27mm.  A less-blurry end-on view of the white connector would help as well.

Do you need to plug those to connectors into one another, or do you need to swap one for the other?

Its an LVDS cable, search for that, but extending it might introduce noise into the image.

I'd call the 2nd connector a pin-header-connector.

Depending on how long you want to extend, I'd probably cut the existing conductors and replace / extend them to fit.

Keep note of the twist length and pairs - that is important!
Don't ask a question if you aren't willing to listen to the answer.

How is the controller attached to the PC? VGA, DVI, HDMI?

because you can always extend it that way instead of dealing with the lvds cable.
