TS80 Soldering Iron Short
« on: December 14, 2020, 08:24:51 am »
Hello people,

It turns out you shouldn't be stupid and solder a live wire. At least the same circuit that is powering the iron.

I touched a wire on the boat and it zapped the iron and blew the QC3 usb adapter.

I'm not an expert so bear with me. The power supply ic in the usb adapter had a neat little hole in it.

The TS80 board looks fine. Here an image from this site of the pcb (upper image).

I noticed the green polyfuse wasn't working so I tried jumping that. (Damn, I tested this a couple of weeks ago but the power was getting through, I believe 4v of so out of the first IC). Otherwise there's no life.

Any advice?
