Hey guys,
this is a new article about a startup that supposedly made a "proof of concept" nano diamond battery in UK that uses radioactive carbon to produce charge (as far as I understand).

https://techcrunch.com/2020/08/25/self-charging-thousand-year-battery-startup-ndb-aces-key-tests-and-lands-first-beta-customers/?guccounter=1

And here is a link to their site: https://ndb.technology/

It really sounds too good to be true. What do you think about it?

It sounds like the result of this research: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2016/november/diamond-power.html which is also mentioned here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_battery

As I understand it the radioisotope encapsulated in a diamond shield provides the energy which is turned into current. Note that the generated energy is very low but then the battery is very long-lived.

There are existing batteries using the same principle, but based on other radiaoactive substance like tritium. They last a long time, but at very low power. Despite the marketing of this new one, I get the impression that it will be similar, and so have limited use.

and yet they claim "7x the charge of phone battery". Another one of those baits for investors.

Well it may be true but you'd have to wait eons to extract that amount of charge. :-DD

What do they mean by charge? It might store 7 times the charge of a phone battery, but if the voltage is one 7th, then it will store the same amount of energy.

It is an updating of this 34-year old technology
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
Glider pilot's aphorism: "there is no substitute for span". Retort: "There is a substitute: skill+imagination. But you can buy span".
