USB C PD chip that will work stanalone
« on: September 07, 2022, 09:14:36 am »
I'm being asked to add USB C ports to a device. So it makes sense to go all wiz bang and do full PD at 100W (it's only supplied by a 5kWh battery  >:D). But I'm getting rather confused looking around, there seem to be lots of controller chips but all need a microcontroller. I just need to supply power at the rate requested by the connected device.

Does anyone do a controller that will do the contract handling and then give some output to set the voltage of a DC/DC converter?

There are a number of chips that are standalone.  What are your exact voltage/current requirements?

Cypress makes a standalone PD IC (CYPD3177) that will request a specified voltage/current up to 100W.  I've used it and it works well.  Just uses a resistor combo to set HI/LO voltage and another to set  HI/LO current request.

A good source controller is the TPS25740B.  It can request up to 100W from a power supply.

Well 100W seems to be current, we have a 48V source so can easily accommodate the voltages and current.

FUCK! cypress has been bought by Infineon, I generally don't use parts from that wanker company, they will just obsolete stuff at short notice for no reason when there is huger demand for it, they may be king for the auto makers but fore people in my position they are utter bastards! want to be redoing all of your CE marking over and over again, buy from Infineon.
