Sliding microscope mount
« on: October 08, 2020, 07:53:46 pm »
Not happy with the standard manufacturer-provided stand for my digital microscope and its lack of flexibility, I have built my own solution - under-shelf, over-the-bench X-Y slider:

It mostly uses ready-made aluminium extrusions, plates, rollers and other elements found here, and some custom 3d-printed parts, mostly related to the belt-synchronised, two-stage Y-axis movement mechanism.

That's nice enough for you to share the build files with us?

Thank you, guys. Regarding the build files, well the "core" is constructed from https://openbuilds.com parts and I just kind of winged it so there's no formal documentation for that as such but feel free to ask in case you have questions.

Regarding my custom 3D printed parts (dealing with the belt mechanics mostly), I've put the STL files here if you're interested:
https://git.tristated.io/zbig/microscope_slider

If you're an Autodesk Fusion 360 user and would rather have the cloud access to the project (instead of just the resulting STLs), shoot me a DM with your email address and I'll invite you.

Thats just beautiful.

Everything is so color-coordinated. It doesnt look like my desk at all. Not even remotely.

It must make it almost effortless to work compared to my ordeal of first finding all the stuff I need in my clutter.

Looks like 30x90 T-nut profile?

Looks like 30x90 T-nut profile?

The X axis (along the shelf’s length) is 20x80 (2 pieces 500 mm long each) and the Y segments are 20x60 (250 mm in length/ea).
