Self Powered Circuit Generator
« on: July 30, 2024, 06:42:01 am »
Hello, I am interested in making a self powered switch that can send a small signal to a receiver, something similar to this one:
https://www.dfrobot.com/product-2568.html

Bigclive has a taredown video of a similar mechanism here:

Does anybody know if I can get the components for that generator ready made or are they a custom component? I have no clue what to ask google in order to get to at least something similar that I can order.
Any clues are highly appreciated.

What he shows at the 7:00 mark definitely looks like a custom part. That would be hard to find. Searching for "kinetic switch" just gets me the finished products.

EDIT: Part number on coil looks like DPM4175 or maybe DPM4173

The general term for this kind of thing is "energy harvesting".
It can be a lot of things, kinetic, thermal, electric, optical....

Do you want to wirelessly send a RF-signal?

Then you probably should rely on off-the-shelf products like in Bigclives video.

Or do you just want the power generator? Then you could "misuse" a lot of components, like mentioned by Benta or a stepper motor, a loudspeaker coil, a peltier element, a piezo crystal, ...
Every time you think you designed something foolproof, the universe catches up and designs a greater fool.

that's a good clue, I totally missed it  :palm:

Indeed my circuit will also send some rf signal and I am interested to see if I can build one myself as a hobby project.
Currently I am interested only in the power generator and I would much prefer to find a solution that I could purchase somewhere. Thanks for the idea on how I could cook up my own from component "misuse"! this will come in handy if need to make one myself.

Try to disassemble a few small DC relays for a compact pre-fab coil with metal core and adapt your own moving magnet to generate voltage.  Expect to use a higher voltage relay like 24v or 48v to make only 3v for a short instant with a load on the coil.

Or just use one of the small but powerful loudspeakers e.g. from a dead bluetooth-boombox.

Remove the membrane as far as possible without destroying any copper wire. Then put a heavy coin in the middle and just vibrate everything.

The voltage you get from these speakers is quite low, but it´s possible to rectify it with a shottky diode and run e.g. a joule thief oscillator with a small LED. It´s quite fascinating where you can "harvest" power that way.
Every time you think you designed something foolproof, the universe catches up and designs a greater fool.

I managed to find a manufacturer's site which has more part numbers for you to search for.
The name almost looks like Limptech.   ;D
