I have some ideas for the the keypad, to replace the individual button.
But I'm curious of how you will resolve this problem

Nice build. 

For a ready made control panel, I would probably use a MIDI controller pad.  They come in all forms and shapes, bigger or smaller, or as elements that can be snapped together to form a bigger controller pad.  Usually used by artist, to control musical synthesizers, stage animatronics, theater lights, concert lasers, etc.

I don't send pictures of the idea I have for the keypad to not influence about the design, I think it's the best to get new solutions new idea.
Also I'm curious what you think about the layout, what should be modified.
