Can anyone tell me the capacitor values of C1 and C2?
« on: February 05, 2018, 12:01:34 pm »
Hi!
I am attaching the Protel Schematic of a product I bought from ebay:
DS3231 AT24C32 Memory Module For Arduino IIC Precision RTC Real Time Clock

Can anyone tell me what are the values of C1 and C2?
Also, is C1 used for DS3231 and C2 for AT24C32?

It is mentioned in DS3231 datasheet that a decoupling capacitor is needed between Vdd and Vss (0.1uF to 1uF)
Is the other capacitor used for the EEPROM IC?

Also, for a project I am doing at the moment I am using the microchip IC EEPROM 24AA64. Do I need a capacitor
between Vdd and Vss? If yes what value?

Thanks,
Alexandros

The values are 104 and 105.
104 = 10 0 0 0 0 pF = 100nF  = 0.1uF
105 = 10 0 0 0 0 0 pF = 1000nF  = 1uF

Yes, it's good practise to use a decoupling capacitor. The value isn't critical: 100nF is the typical default value to use and put it as close to the IC's power supply pins, as possible.

No, they are all in parallel.
1uF filters low frequencies well but is poor at high frequencies.
100nF filters high frequencies well but is poor at low frequencies.
