Switch Question - Datasheet Incomplete (I think)
« on: January 10, 2024, 01:47:28 am »
Recently I obtained a none working Variac. The fuse was good, windings didn't look burned (I assumed the fuse would have blown before anything smoked anyway), and power switch light was illuminated. I measured the wires on the output receptacle and found they didn't have any voltage on them (I initially thought the receptacle was broken.

In any case, at this point, I sensed the switch was bad, so I replaced it with a spare from the same model Variac that was junked months ago due to taking a fall, and it worked.

The original switch is part number (no manufacture shown on switch): QY603-101 T125. The replacement switch is from Soken and is part number: RK1-15

I tried finding the datasheet for the broken one without success and resorted to assuming the switches are the same since they came from the same model Variac, same footprint, etc... but the datasheet I found for the Soken didn't have a pin out.

Since the switches are the same footprint, and came from the same model Variac, I really don't need a datasheet, but I'm interested to know how someone would know which way to wire this (without measuring) since the pins aren't labeled; nor does it show on the datasheet.

It's wired with one of the outer pins as hot from the input plug, the middle pin is hot out to one side of the windings (when the switch is closed), and other outer pin is neutral to the output receptacle/input plug/other side of the winding.
