Disc mounting in dosbox

Hi all!
I'm looking at a way to use dosbox to run some DOS radio programming software.
To keep it flexible I'm using a portable image on a tumb drive.
The problem is when changing PC there will be issues because the drive can change letter.
Is there a way to mount the drive with a command similar to using %windir% when referring to the location where windows in installed?

I assume(1) the operating system is Windows. Please specify that kind of information, while asking questions.

Windows does not offer a way to use predictable volume or file system paths in a manner, that “just works” with any program. Therefore I believe the general answer is: no. However, a few guesses you may try:

If DosBox supports this path style, you may try identifying the file system using \\?\Volume{id} — where id stands for file system’s UUID.

Otherwise: in volume options there is a feature, which allows you to assign a particular letter to a given volume. I have no idea, if that works for removable media. But, if it does, you can set the same letter your thumb drive on all computers.

The third option is bruteforcing all 23 options(2) and checking, if some required file is present.

IIRC, batch scripts started from Explorer are executed with the working directory set to where the script is located. If that is true, you can write a script to start DosBox and use relative paths in it.


(1) Based on the mention of “drive letters” and “%windir%”.
(2) “A:”, “B:” and “C:” are excluded, so checking only covers “D:” to “Z:”.

I'm running windows 7 but this should not matter because the bat file is running inside the config settings on the Dosbox.
I would assume that this will only run native dos comands.

I would assume that this will only run native dos comands.
Commands, which interact with external world (like mount), are dependent on the operating system. It would be pretty useless, if I told you how to do that one some Linux distro, Android or MacOS.

Solved it!
Did google a  bit and figured out a solution by using variables.  :)

Used the %CD% command to set a variable.
Than used the variable as the first part of the path for the drive to map.
