MachXO3LF FTDI issue?

further hints please:

following MachXO3StarterKitUsersGuideEB95.pdf
diamond installed and runs on Ubuntu 14.04 following guide:

built bitfile ?
but do not get status PASS when clicking programmer

tried changing udev rules without result

With a MachXO2 board, also on Ubuntu 14.04, I need to run sudo modprobe -r ftdi_sio to get the FTDI JTAG programmer to work.
