Omnicharge - Battery bank with AC outlet
« on: November 10, 2016, 11:41:54 pm »
This looks interesting, nothing super revolutionary just a power bank with an inverter, but it's in a nice convenient package and has interesting features like a universal DC charging port that also accepts a solar panel directly, suggesting that it has some kind of MPPT algorithm (if done right).     Wonder if the specs actually hold up, especially the inverter.  At a quick glance they seem plausible.

I just saw it and thought it would be interesting to see what you guys think.  It looks like it's already shipping.

Even the high power model will not supply 100 watts for a full hour.  For USB there are lots of models out there.

For the AC output this needs to be bigger with more batteries.

Yeah I would not expect much out of the inverter, and it's also not pure sine wave.    I think the idea is you can plug stuff that does not have a USB adapter, so like maybe camera chargers and such.

I actually built my own system a while back for camping, it's much bulkier though, uses 14ah of lead acid batteries and has a 60w foldable solar panel. Absolutely not something you'd backpack with, but handy to have in the tent for lights and stuff.  Was even able to power the air mattress pump.

I've ordered a Pro model (international). For once it looks like a very well designed and made product, I've seen a couple of others but this one's flexible charge voltage, adjustable DC output and ability to disable the inverter chopper really  shows they've thought it out quite well.
Obviously capacity is capacity and it'll only power stuff for so long but when it does it'll do it well, and the capacity is actually pretty appropriate for a day or 2 on the move without weighing a ton. Of course if you're looking at a week long camping trip it's probably not the right thing.

This still can get a full charge in my laptop, and charge things like my various camera batteries for which 12V chargers are hard to come by and expensive using the inverter.

It looks interesting, hell, if they also added configurable current limiting it could be half-decent portable lab supply. I'd be a bit worried with carrying device that can generate 200V+, fucking something in setup might cause some damage
