Keep voting, folks.  It doesn't go unnoticed, please trust us on this.  There are some undeniably questionable votes that are being removed, it's just a manual process and we're working with the contest management company to get them removed.

If you find (a lot of) questionable votes, why don't you just disqualify the cheater?

Probably because the votes could be "planted...
If three 100  Ohm resistors are connected in parallel, and in series with a 200 Ohm resistor, how many resistors do you have?

Thought of that of course, but what is the alternative, checking each and every voter manual?

It's almost a draw now between Nilu and David (-59 votes). Has he ever been so close? The alternative, to get rid of the cheating problem, is of course to get rid of the public voting at all and get the winner picked by a Keysight jury on technical merits of the contenders. OTOH, for us bystanders, the public voting has some undeniable entertainment value  :-DD

It will be interesting to see if Nilu had a sudden acceleration of votes, like last time he got close.

My sisters are still working on the cheerleaders - a few thousand or so. First attempt at an event with announcements, social media posts, and personal conversations did not yield much. They were busy at the time and did not want to bother. Now they are less busy. So we get to see what happens when a large group is personally addressed for the second time by someone they know an trust. This will happen all at once - let's see if the group leads to a vote spike. If 1% voted 3x - it would be about the expectation for a total of 90 votes. After all that I have done - addressing huge groups that in turn address huge groups - the actual number of people that are willing the suffer through the clunky process on their phone and then come back daily is very very small.

A huge number of real voters just cant deal with the fiddly process on their phones - I have spoken with many dozens of people that said they voted, but they never saw the CAPTCHA (meaning they did no actually vote at all). This makes it even harder (for everyone) because that difficulty is on top of the challenge to get anyone to care enough to vote in the first place. It does not take long to exhaust your own list of people you personally know. I was able to get a small number of people I personally know to vote from my list of about 600 on Facebook. Of the few that are voting, only a handful of them are voting daily. My wife has posted papers at her office and her circle is voting daily. They are asking clients to vote as they pass through, but very few actually do it - including the ones that say 'sure, no problem'.

Just to be clear and honest, I would likely never notice someone asking me to vote since I have programmed myself to ignore 99% of the Facebook and other social media noise. If I did notice someone asking for votes, I would have to know them and understand what I was voting for to even consider it. If I got all the way to the voting site and it was even slightly fiddly, weird, or difficult - I would likely go away and not come back. I personally saw this and read comments and direct messages that confirm that seems to be true with most people.

Huge bursts of social media coverage, personal appeals, emails, announcements at sporting events, and even silly videos have yet to create any discernible spike in my votes.

I know I've voted from my phone a couple of times (Galaxy S4) and I sometimes had to go looking for the Captcha window - only because I already knew I had to use it.  Also - just about every time, I had to quickly zip up to the top to see the 'Thank you' message to know the vote was successful.

It was a bit fussy - when you already knew what to do.  For a first time voter, you had a 25% chance of getting it right first go (IMHO).

Here's a close up of the last couple of days' voting on Nilu and David..

Don't be too quick to judge.

Nilu J:
Yesterday from 9a-10p (13hrs) ~300 votes
Today from 9a-8p (11hrs) ~970 votes

Makes sense.

I should add to that - checking the 'Thank you' message up top is essential ... because sometimes it's the 'Sorry, but the reCaptcha response you answered was incorrect.' message!

LOL 2000 votes in the last 48 hours - I just fell out of my chair. Keysight, how have you not just closed the contest voting? This couldn't get anymore blatant, if nilus and Davids growth got anymore exponential these last two days I'd need eye protection to stop that pointy line from poking my eyes out.

Hopefully they're both going to feel really silly if/when they get disqualified after spending a couple hundred real dollars on these votes, that could have been spent on a rigol that could, you know, *actually effing do what they need*
