This thread inspired me to remove my own post from the contest thread.
When I first read the rules, it looked like there was wiggle room when he said "...If you have less than
say 10 post when you post in here, I'll delete you. But don't think that 10 or 11 posts magically gets you in!..." I knew I only had a couple posts, but didn't go back and actually count before I said "I'm In".
Turns out I had only one single post from last year, and the only other posts were from after the contest was announced. Surely I'd be DQ'd anyway, so I removed it myself.
I still contend that this whole giveaway could have been done better. Dave said one of his goals was to increase forum participation, so simply rewarding those who are
already participating does not work toward that goal. It also removes many of his casual YouTube subscribers (which presumably account for a healthy chunk of his revenues). In that case, why even make a YouTube video about it? Why even mention it on The Amp Hour podcast? Instead, simply post the rules in the forum where the active members will see it anyway, and the surge of unqualified participants could have been avoided in the first place.
But in the end it's Dave's Forum and Dave's Rules, so I'm happy to comply and simply observe from my non-contributing seat
