Even back in the 70's when I was at uni, a story was making the rounds about an undergrad class that was told that any student could bring in ANYTHING to the final exam that he/she could carry. So one guy carried a post-grad friend in on his back. The proctors felt stuck and allowed it. The student passed.
Id imagine an asterisk about bringing in people was added to that rule next year.
I never heard of any of those stories here, but there was a lot of variability to what you could bring on an exam. From "only a pen" up to "here use this laptop for matlab". If they didn't allow A4 notes then i loaded up my fancy TI Nspire calculator with notes (It could hold a whole text book worth of word document-ish text, while the crappy horrible contrast LCD meant nobody could see it from any sort of distance). They did say i can bring a calculator, so i did.
