This intergenerational rivalry stuff never used to exist.

Nonsense. It's always been there. I remember old ham radio operators who wouldn't talk to kids back when I first got started decades ago as a teenager. Ditto for other hobbies as well.

It depends on the individuals involved, I guess.   I had great interactions with some adults, as a kid...  but not all adults are able to talk to kids, and vice versa!

Nothing wrong with it, I do it all the time.
But wait ........ she uses the soldering iron to pry out the Bios battery?

That picture makes me cringe every time I see it, there are just so many things wrong with it. Even the idiot behind the counter at Radio Shack probably could have told them how to hold a soldering iron and suggested something realistic to be pretending to solder with it.
