Just a poll to see if we have any wasps lovers.

The only problem I have with bees is that they like to feast on human feces. Our neighbour makes honey for sale and people pay quite large sums for *natural* honey - if only they knew that his bees keep drinking water from our septic tank.

Mud dauber wasps are OK. So non-aggressive that I have handled them without any difficulty. I don't care for most others.

I've been stung by a wasp, through my biking shorts.  They are indeed aggressive assholes that'll sting you just for laughs.

They are the bullies of the insect world.

Wasps are great. Had one flying around a campsite once, hit it with a sandal. Hours later it was still showing signs of life, but not capable of moving much.

Hmm, wonder if there are fish in this large waterhole (on a mostly dry river - dry season in northern western oz). Ok, no bait, oh, wait a minute, that wasp. CAREFULLY put it on a hook and then toss the line into the water, not more than a minute and I've caught a nice 18" catfish for dinner :)

Wasps are great (as bait).

cheers,
george.

A puff of ant killer powder into the entrance of the nest works wonders - all gone in a few hours. Far more effective than many wasp-specific products I've tried in the past.

What prompted this thread? Now is not the time of year for wasps, unless you're down south, yet the original poster's location is Belarus.

Wasps can be a nuisance but they do kill other pests.

An ex girlfriend of mine was susceptible to anaphylactic shock and coupled with her asthma a wasp sting could cause certain death!

For some reason I still quite like wasps.

I much prefer to stomp on them and I can assure you that once you've been stung you will never look at them in the same manner ever again, many years ago whilst digging for worms for a fishing trip with a few friends one yelled out there is a wasp on your shoulder, it was too late and felt like being bashed with a base ball bat into my upper arm region, horrendous throbbing pain that lingered for at least a week.

It was a European wasp..... >:D

I once had a customer stop and ask me while I was extremely busy and having a very stressful day, "What is a wasp?"
"A flying, stinging insect" I say as I try to get away
"No, no" he says "A WASP is someone that gets out of the shower to pee"

And UK! quote; My mate didn’t want to take any chances so he hit it with a hammer. :)

Oh dear god.  The pic above made me shudder a bit, so not too happy that these are in the UK.  One of the benefits of constantly crap weather is the relative lack of dangerous stinging/biting things, but if we're going to have the crap weather and the dangerous bugs then it may be time to move :)
