Last time was about 6 moths ago by a Baofeng handheld radio. My big sweaty mits were across one of the external  battery charging terminals and the belt clip screws. When i pushed transmit it shocked the shit out of me, my had was painful/numb for about 20 minuet. No visible burns but that hurt the most.

Previous to that was 10+ years, replacing overhead florescent ballast transformers in my old shop. Nicked a wire while stripping another. That one hurt, the lines were 277vac. 110vac is a warm buzz compared to 277 which bites. That was the only one that caused any kind of burn. about a mm or two in diameter into my thumb.

When I was 14 I did a weeks work experience at a local TV repair shop.  I was trying to diagnose a fault on an old CRT tv while it was switched on and accidentally brushed my hand across the back of the tube.  It threw me back across the room into a book case.

After that I grew a healthy respect for anything that uses high voltages.

I suppose nobody wants to hear about an incident many years ago involving a car battery, jumper leads and my nipples.

No?

OK.

The last one was pulling apart a wall wart power supply to use inside a project case (mains cable soldered to the board inside).

There was still enough charge in the mains capacitors to give me that tingling feeling up my arm.

I learned the main rule of high voltage work a long time ago:
"Keep one hand in the pocket"

I think I was about 3 years old, when I touched the mains line the first time.
That is all not too crazy.
Getting a strike from high voltage and low current AC does not feel good, but one will survive.

The respect comes in, when the current limiting circuit is missing and you are dealing with high voltage.
I have been extremely cautious with those circuits, AC and DC and never got hit.
It would probably be lethal.

There are 3 kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those who can not.

Dunno, I'm pretty curious now. Surely it wasn't worth much at 12V...?

It just might have been the biggest dummy load ever.

When I was about 4 (late 60's), I found a cutoff AC plug on my grandfathers workbench.  It had about 3 inches of wire hanging off of it, ends stripped and separated slightly.  Of course I plugged it in...   Damn hair has been curly ever since.

Oh, then there was this time when I was 4... I found a plug on my grandfathers workbench...

A year after my apprenticeship, I was asked to make a shunt for an analogue ammeter. Using a steel bar, I used a file to calibrate the shunt.

While the power was switched on.  :o  :palm:

At 5 years old, stuck a bent paperclip into the terminals of an AC outlet.
The paperclip started dribbling onto the floor. I never repeated the experiment

When I did that, at the age of 6 though, the light just went out.. Boring modern safety features  :=\

U shaped piece of solder held in a pair of pliers - and don't touch the ground, otherwise the RCD will decrease the level of FUN   :-DD ( once upon a time we were young and stupid  :-DD , but we're not young anymore  :-DD )
