This forum has some extensions installed which automatically embed media linked from imgur, youtube and maybe a few other services like those.

Any other link works normally. Find an image host not supported by those extensions and you're done.

You could also upload an attachment to the forum, but there will be a visible thumbnail. You can link to attachments from other posts and such links work normally.

BTW, there is no such thing as a temporary thread. You can't delete it even if no one responds.

Can anybody suggest an image host that does not have link extensions that automatically install into this forum?
If so, I would be appreciated.

You don't keep your images local ?  :scared:

Back some years many used such for forum posts until those hosts went down and now we are left with mucked up threads without imagery.  :horse:

If you have such imagery you wish to post in threads here just upload them in your posts using the Attachments and other options link.
You can drag and drop them there or as I prefer add them as more attachments to be uploaded as thumbnails for click on expansion or using their URL's to embed within a post within the Image flags.

The only thing you need consider is image size as there are size restrictions and they also need be hosted on the EEVblog server. Large images can take time to load for those on slow connections and in most cases the image files can be compressed smaller unless fine detail is required and also to help with load speed and reduce the load on the server.

Something that would help a lot would be to increase the preview "thumbnail" resolution to something more useful like 720p. Actually, most of the time, I target 1080p for pictures to be posted since that's still the most common in the mainstream, except when it would be insufficient or clearly overkill. I might increase that to 1440p within the next few years since 1440p and above monitors are getting more popular now.

That used to be the case, but the forum software stores thumbnails in 32-bit colour PNG format, which often resulted in much larger files than the original full sized images, so it was reduced to something more sensible.

New members sign up every day and most require this sort of guidance.

Deleting EEVblog threads has never been a general policy as they serve as help, guidance, and whatever for everyone else.

Would it be difficult to change that to use JPEG, with fairly high compression?
