Hand Tool Storage on the Workbench

I think I am going to try a lazy Susan based design. I have ordered a pack of the base bearings and will dust off Fusion 360 and my 3D printer. At present I see something like a wedding cake with levels that have sides that slope outward and that interlock for stacking.

I have an 8 drawer machinist's toolchest.  It's useful for keeping tools sorted without resorting to OCD.  Pliers are in one drawer, cutters in another, etc

Tools go into a pile to get sorted at the end of the day.

Not ideal, but it works well enough that I haven't invested time for something better.

Tools multiply. No matter what 'neat' solution you try, it always fails as the number and variety of tools overwhelms it.
At the moment my two workspaces both end up like:
 * Random pile of small recently used tools on the side of the bench.
 * Small cheap metal drawers under my 'electronics' bench (which is small and used for everything including sitting here typing.)
 * In the larger mech workshop, a mix of wall pegboard, shelving with boxes, boxes under the bench, and lots of metal filing cabinets. Those I've never had to buy, just picked them up for free - mainly street tosses. Hmm, rough count, there are about 17 file cabinet drawers full of tools of all sizes.

This is another idea, makes compact storage of drivers which take too much space otherwise. From left to right, hex drivers, screw drivers, torxes (sp?). Actually, aside from a soldering iron, that's the only hand tools I keep on the workbench.

I like these with most used cutters, pliers and tweezers, easy to choose and take what you need. Made many years ago by Belzer but easy to make oneself. Thin sheetmetal bent and cut, symmetrical if you look it from the end.

This is a bit of a challenge, this sort of works.

I went under desk for close proximity to the tools I use all the time in my test and debug area. One is a keyboard tray, the other is a 3+1/2 low profile drawer set.
