Withdrawn (USA): Agilent 87405B preamplifier
« on: May 11, 2019, 06:42:34 pm »
I've recently upgraded to an Agilent 87405C preamplifier (DC-18 GHz) for my 8562EC spectrum analyzer.  Consequently, my Agilent 87405B preamp (DC-4 GHz) is now up for sale.  It is in great condition and has been carefully used.

This amplifier is compatible with any spectrum analyzer employing an N-female input connector.  HP/Agilent/Keysight spectrum analyzers are particularly convenient since many provide the necessary +15V@150 mA / -12.6V@75 mA supply voltages via a dedicated front-panel connection (such as the 856x/859x -series).  The amplifier provides 22 dB of gain and a 5 dB noise figure, which permits the spectrum analyzer to accurately measure low-amplitude RF signals.

The overall noise figure of the preamplifier+analyzer system is 8 dB (3 dB higher than the noise figure of the preamplifier alone).  So when using this preamplifier, dynamic range of the spectrum analyzer will decrease by only 3 dB, but sensitivity and DANL will increase by almost 15 dB.  Details here.
