Having trouble with an experiment.
« on: September 27, 2012, 05:10:47 pm »
This is gonna be tough to explain without you knowing or seeing my piece of equipment I'm doing experiments on, but I'll try my best. This piece of equipment is about the size of a small briefcase. It has a DC power supply, logic indicators with 4 LED's W through Z. It has a clock generator with 1 HZ and 1KHZ switch clock+ and clock- hookups. It has a "connection block", a interface block, logic switches that go between NOT-A and A, NOT-B and B. It also has 4 data switches labeled SW1 through SW4. If you want to Google the piece its the Model XK-200 Digital trainer. Maybe there are pics of it somewhere.
Ok here is the first experiment issue. Its a RELAY operation. Determine how a relay is used to switch power between 2 circuits. The problem, the RELAY they sent is different than the book, I think messing up the wiring contained in the book. They sent me this RELAY HLS-4078 DC-5V. Its supposed to switch one LED on and then off turning on another. I'm getting nothing, no lit LED, no change in LED lights, nothing. I understand this is tough, because you don't have the equipment, but any help I will appreciate BIG time. I'm sure you guys have worked with this RELAY, so maybe you can help.
Here is something awesome, just putting my hands on this stuff, the RELAY's, the capacitors, the resistors is helping me understand circuits better, if that makes any sense. Finally all this stuff I learned about in theory, comes to life. I really LOVE this stuff. I think i will be a kick @ss ET, if I can pass this experiments part of this program. Thanks again for any help. SORRY for the LONG posting.

Plug HLS-4078 into Google, download that thing called datasheet, read it, and look for the pin layout. Use it to wire you circuit correctly.
I delete PMs unread. If you have something to say, say it in public.

The HLS-4078 looks quite standard to me, what is the model used in the book?
If - after googling the datasheet - you still can't get it to work explain how you connected it.
You should hear it clicking when it is supposed to switch, if not you are probably not using the correct pins for the coil.
Keyboard error: Press F1 to continue.
