After experimenting with Vivaldi I was curious about Opera and installed the latest one a coupe of days ago.
I did notice that the performance seems good on page loads some things seem to load quick.
But every time you type into the search bar, like the trend with lightboxes or modals, little white dialogue appears and the rest of the page goes dark.
See picture attachments.
I found there use to be a flag ("#reborn-3-dropdown") to turn if off when it was but that got removed from this edition (Opera 68):

Hi, The recent update has added a new feature which dims or greys the web page when typing in the address bar. This is really jarring, having essentially an entire display flick between dark and light every time I type an address is quite uncomfortable on the eyes. Any help on how to disable the dimming or greying would be much appreciated, i.e. return the address bar behaviour as before the update. I have already tried flagging #enhanced-address-bar to disabled, but that apparently hasn't done anything.
Thanks!

@sb1 As far as i know, you can't disable it.
I found the reason they did this:
A redesigned address bar
With the release of Opera Reborn 3 last spring, we introduced a redesigned interface with features including a light and dark theme, allowing you to adjust your browser to your mood and help you focus on browsing. Today we are continuing the R3 design changes with a new, improved version of the address bar.
Adjust your browser to your mood and help you focus on browsing? By hurting my eyes and obscuring the content in the background. As helping me focus on browsing my mood says "It is hurting my eyes how do I disable it?" They said you can't and that is suppose to help by taking away a choice.
When using the address bar, the webpage that is currently being used is dimmed, providing visual clarity while searching. The dropdown layout has also changed – website titles are now displayed first, followed by hyperlinks, providing a cleaner overview of browsing-history suggestions, bookmarks and Speed Dial elements. This change relates to the way we scan content – looking at titles not links, reading from left to right. Websites also now appear with their website logo, making them more distinguishable, and you can quickly access any previously visited website by typing in a keyword. All of these changes allow for easier access to content as well as a faster browsing experience.
That is very interesting, when was it a problem when you could not see the address bar properly with visual clarity?
For me I have never had that problem.
What do you think, is that something you can tolerate when typing in the address bar?
