YOUR Ryzen 3xxx Idle Power Consumption watts - POST NOW !!!
« on: September 26, 2019, 02:05:15 pm »
How many watts does your new Ryzen 3xxx system suckle from the AC Mains teat when idle?
 :bullshit:

I asked the same question at TomsHardware, and a mod responded "Most people have no equipment to measure mains power consumption. I don't think you will get too many responses".   Alas, it appears he's correct.  Which begged the question:  What kind of useless wanker doesn't have an AC power meter?

So I turn to the eevblog, where men are Men, and women are Women, and any dude or dudette worth their salt has a bloody AC mains power meter (seriously - $20 dang dollars for a P3 Kill-A-Watt, or $12 for the "UL sticker my ass" version: Mains Power Meter)

Anyhoo, for reference, my i7-4790 with GTX750ti idles around 32watts - measured by my kill-a-watt meter. But all of the Zen2 numbers I've seen are double, or more. wtf?
So please, post your Zen2 system idle power consumption now!

Please post in a similar format, stating "OC" if you overclock, chipset (X570 for example is a known-guzzler) and note other system components that might skew your numbers.

Fictitious Examples:

Ryzen 5 3600 (OC), X570: 145watts (system has a custom 3kg graphics card, extra beefcake)

or

Ryzen 9 3950x (stock), X470: 66watts

man dont buy Ryzen, women here were mostly men :palm: but we do have some equipments that can measure that easy. afaik, there will be 1 or 2 guys that can help you on this, if they happen to pass by... well, this is helpful!? :P

It includes losses in PSU, motherboard and other hardware. It is no wonder if idle consumption in different systems with the same CPU can vary 3 times or even more.

kek

My Ryzen 3950X takes exactly 0W, as it doesn't exist. Throw that in your chart :-P
I am definitely looking at their chips though, what we do have for the 3950X is /really/ impressive.
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

i think the proper method is to clamp probe those 4 pins cabling that goes to power the cpu core. i could be wrong but... who cares? esp if you buy performance tools and expect them to sleep well. and then esp those who tweaks numbers to get hellfire like speed, applies to things like not just the cpu, but RAM and a gfx card that costs as much as a muggle's complete PC system.

It likely won't be full consumption. There is memory controller which has the same VRM as RAM, and other voltages besides Vcore which likely will be powered from ATX connector. FWIW Ryzen 3 can drop to very low idle consumption, Vcore going down to 0.2V if motherboard supports it.
Also it depends on bios version and chipset driver, early versions being too trigger happy to boost on slightest loads.

IDLE Power Consumption:

Asrock B450 Pro4,  2 sticks RAM (totalling 32gb),  Ryzen 7 3700x,  GTX 750Ti:

54 watts from the wall (power draw is never less than 54, but will jump with the slightest of CPU usage)

Notes:
- I chose B450 cuz it seems to have lower idle power compared to X470, and certainly less than X570(which needs a fan - ugh).
- I chose GTX750ti cuz it is cheap and reputed to have low idle power.
- every extra monitor I drive from the video card idles another 5watts from the wall (I have a 3 monitor setup, but the 54watts above is with one monitor only).
